2025 Boston Marathon Support
Starts With You
The “Why”
If you’ve ever experienced the excitement of running the Boston Marathon, you’ve felt the energy of Hopkinton, Massachusetts—the starting point of one of the world’s most iconic races. For those unfamiliar, Hopkinton isn’t just the place where 36,000 runners begin their journey. It’s a tight-knit community that embodies the spirit of unity, resilience, and celebration. Each year, the town, volunteers, and families gather to cheer on runners and send them off on their 26.2-mile journey, creating an atmosphere unlike any other.
The vibe in Hopkinton on marathon day is electric. Imagine this: runners stepping off hundreds of school buses—yes, school buses—into Athlete’s Village, surrounded by the cheers of strangers-turned-supporters, the sound of cowbells, helicopters overhead, and cameras rolling. As a runner, it's one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire experience, filled with an incredible sense of anticipation and community.
But what makes Hopkinton truly special isn’t just the race. It’s the people who live there. The community that has been supporting athletes, families, and visitors for over a century. It's the residents who, year after year, create the welcoming, inspiring environment that makes the Boston Marathon so extraordinary.
This year, I’m asking for your help in giving back to this community that has given so much to so many. Hopkinton is facing significant challenges. To support its growing needs—including infrastructure, education, and the everyday costs of running a municipality—taxes will rise by at least 25% in the coming year. This increase poses a serious financial burden for low-income seniors and people with disabilities living on fixed incomes, jeopardizing their ability to stay in their homes and remain a part of this vibrant community.
That’s where you come in.
I am running the Boston Marathon this year to raise $7,000 for the Senior and Disabled Hopkinton Tax Relief Fund, which provides direct financial assistance to disabled and senior residents of the Hopkinton community. This fund helps ease the financial strain of rising property taxes, ensuring that the people who helped build and shape Hopkinton can continue to live in the town they’ve always called home.
Every dollar you donate will go directly to supporting this cause. Every dollar counts—because every dollar helps someone stay in their home, maintain their independence, and continue contributing to the community they love. Please join me in supporting the people of Hopkinton—people who have created some of the most cherished memories for marathon runners and spectators alike. Together, we can ensure that this incredible community remains a place where everyone can thrive, regardless of age, ability, or income.
Thank you for your generosity and support. It means the world to me, and even more to the senior and disabled residents of Hopkinton.
With gratitude,
Jack Donleavy
